STUNNING park with easy, free parking right by the lake, nice walking trails, good cell service, and a little beach. You can even see the skyline in the distance. Nice place to park our RV for a few hours and just relax.
Even in the winter, it's lovely to walk along the lake, passing Dawes Park. All year long, even on a summer day, before 9 a.m., if it's sunny you get benefits for your skin and eyes. No need to wear sunglasses or a hat. It's one of the world's great walks.
Came to this park at sunrise for a bike race and it’s a beautiful park. Being by the lake and being able to walk around the large park was a great experience!
The lakeshore trails at Dawes Park are absolutely wonderful for an afternoon stroll. Being right on Lake Michigan, one can walk for miles along the water and take in the beautiful views across the waves. On a sunny day it is the perfect place to clear one's mind and get some exercise. I saw several people walking their dogs here - it must be a canine favorite as well with all the exciting smells right by the big lake.
I'm always amazed at how green and lush Dawes Park is, even late in the year when other parks have gone brown. The old trees provide ample shade no matter the season. Several baseball and soccer fields are located farther inland so there is always the chance to spot an active game in progress. Kids were enjoying the playground equipment near the parking lot on my visit. It seemed a happy community hangout for families on weekends.
Wandering over to the lagoons on the eastern side of the park, mallard ducks could be seen paddling leisurely. The soothing sounds of water brought a sense of calm. A few coy fish jumped from the surface now and again, reminding one of the ecosystem that thrives here alongside the city. Looking westward across the lagoons, the downtown Evanston skyline emerges in a pleasing view of structures mingled with treetops. A friendly reminder of how close yet separate nature and development can be when planned well together.
Dawes Park is a real treasure for the community of Evanston. With over a mile of lakefront trails one could walk here for hours so bring your comfortable shoes! Make sure to stop by if visiting the area - it is well worth absorbing some natural beauty even in the heart of the city. I hope to return again soon for more lakeside relaxation.
Scenic walk by the lake.. You have to be a Evanston resident to use the beach or pay 15 per head
I love this park. Its right along the lake, east of downtown Evanston. Always peaceful to get some fresh air or go for a nice jog around the Lakeshore.
Being in the huge garden, sometimes feel boring. The pond gives a few moments of fun. We can see duck families.
Beautiful and relaxing park, bustling with walkers, joggers, bikers, loungers, boaters and sun worshipers. We walked here every day from our hotel less than one mile away, and spent hours walking and sitting. Lovely place.
